Microneedling Treatments
At Aespala Medspa & Plastic Surgery in Oak Brook, IL, we offer microneedling and RF microneedling. These treatments can address many different cosmetic and aging-related skin concerns and restore health and a youthful glow to your skin.
Microneedling Treatments
Microneedling has become a popular treatment for its ability to safely improve the appearance of the skin without synthetic solutions, surgical techniques, chemicals, or adverse reactions.
Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy and works by initiating a healing process within your own body. We offer two microneedling treatments, traditional microneedling with the SkinPen® and RF microneedling with the Vivace® Microneedle RF Device.
SkinPen® Microneedling
SkinPen® Microneedling is an FDA-approved device that uses single-use, sterile cartridges full of tiny, thin needles to create micro-wounds in the top layer of the skin, which result in microchannels that reach into the deeper layers. The body perceives these microchannels as injuries and heals them by increasing collagen and elastin production.
In doing so, the body naturally perfects the skin. It improves the most common skin imperfections and signs of aging, including hyperpigmentation, large pores, uneven skin tone, textural irregularities, lines, wrinkles, poor quality skin, and skin laxity. The treatment temporarily improves the skin’s absorption rate, allowing it to better absorb any anti-aging topical products applied during and after treatment.
RF Microneedling With the Vivace® Microneedle RF Device
RF microneedling uses a combination of needles and radiofrequency energy to stimulate natural collagen production. This treatment is similar to standard microneedling, but with the added radiofrequency energy, it can target collagen production with different technology.
Radiofrequency energy has become known as the gold standard of skin care treatments because it tightens and firms the skin by causing existing collagen to contract and stimulating the body to produce new collagen in the treatment area.
Adding Nanoparticle Technology to Your Treatment
During each of these treatments, the needles create microchannels that increase the skin’s absorption rate. We can enhance your results by capitalizing on this temporary increased absorption rate with growth factors and anti-aging topical serums. You’ll have the option of adding PRP, which stands for platelet-rich plasma, to your treatment as well as nanoparticle technology.
The Benefits of PRP and Nanoparticle Technology
Both PRP and nanoparticle technology contain growth factors that can enhance the treatment results when applied during and after the treatment. PRP is derived from your blood. It is the healing component of your blood that, when isolated and prepared into a topical form, can further stimulate collagen production, increase cellular renewal rate, and deliver anti-aging benefits to the skin.
Nanoparticle technology works similarly and contains anti-aging ingredients and growth factors that can help the cells better communicate with each other to heal themselves and restore health and youth to the skin.
Enhancing Your Results With Combination Treatments
While both of these treatments will help change your skin for the better, there are ways to enhance your results. We can do this by incorporating combination treatments into your session. Chemical peels are the perfect add-on treatment to a microneedling or RF microneedling treatment plan. They can help repair the skin by removing the excess layer of dead skin cells and dissolving them with a combination of skin-safe acids.
By removing the dead skin cell barrier, chemical peels will prepare your skin for the needling process. Chemical peels take minutes to complete based on your desired or necessary depth of exfoliation. Once the chemical peel dissolves the layers of skin, we can perform the needling process and apply anti-aging topical products to better absorb into the skin’s deeper layers without having to pass through a layer of dead skin cells.

Microneedling Frequently Asked Questions
Both of these treatments deliver gradual results. All patients can expect some initial results, but the most visible ones appear in the weeks following treatment. It can take the body up to 12 weeks to produce new collagen in the treatment area, and when it does, you’ll notice an improvement in your specific problem areas.
You will see results from just one treatment, but optimal results typically come from a series of treatments. At your initial consultation, we can give you a better idea of the total number of treatments you will need to address your specific concerns. Patients who want to treat superficial skin concerns typically need fewer treatment sessions than those who have more advanced skin concerns, like deep lines, wrinkles, or acne scars.
Another reason that both of these treatments are so popular is that they don’t require social downtime. Your skin may appear red and tight immediately following treatment and may even peel; a completely normal reaction that is a sign that the treatment is working. All of this will subside quickly.
After that, you’ll need to follow the post-care instructions, including avoiding sun exposure and using the right topical products while avoiding harsh, anti-aging ones.
